SOSS ONE-TO-ONE SUPPORT

A Private Conversation With Another Sibling Who Understands

Sometimes a support group is exactly what we need. Other times, we may need a quieter, more personal space to talk with someone who understands sibling suicide loss firsthand.

SOSS One-to-One Support offers adult siblings a private Zoom conversation with a SOSS Admin or Volunteer who has also experienced the suicide death of a brother or sister.

There is no cost for SOSS One-to-One Support.

What Is a SOSS One-to-One Support Session?

A SOSS One-to-One Support Session is a private Zoom conversation created especially for siblings who may need something a little more personal than a group support meeting.

During your One-to-One, you are welcome to share your sibling’s story, talk about what happened, speak their name, share memories, ask questions, talk about what you are struggling with, or simply talk about what life has been like since your sibling died.

There is no pressure to tell your entire story or talk about anything you are not ready to discuss.

Some siblings come with a lot they need to say.

Others may not know where to begin.

Both are completely okay.

You do not have to prepare anything before your session.

You do not have to know what you want to say.

You can simply come as you are.

Sometimes We Just Need Someone Who Understands

Sometimes one of the most meaningful things after sibling suicide loss is simply being able to sit across from another sibling and say the things that people in our everyday lives may not fully understand.

The person meeting with you is not there to analyze your grief, tell you how you should be grieving, or give you a timeline for healing.

They are there to:

Listen.

Support you.

Share understanding through lived experience.

And remind you that you do not have to carry sibling suicide grief completely alone.

What Can We Talk About?

This is your time, and you can use the conversation in whatever way feels most helpful to you.

You may choose to talk about:

• Your sibling and the person they are to you

• The circumstances surrounding their death

• Shock, anger, guilt, unanswered questions, or confusion

• Family relationships after suicide loss

• Feeling forgotten or overlooked as a grieving sibling

• Anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, and other difficult dates

• How grief has affected friendships, work, relationships, faith, or everyday life

• Finding ways to continue carrying love for your sibling while learning how to live with their absence

• SOSS resources, support groups, and other forms of peer support that may be helpful

Most importantly, there is no right or wrong way to use your One-to-One conversation.

“This is what happened.

This is who my sibling is.

This is what I am carrying.”

For many siblings, a One-to-One is simply a place where they can finally say these words and have another sibling truly understand.

Peer Support From Someone Who Understands

SOSS One-to-One Support is peer support.

Our Admins and Volunteers are fellow bereaved siblings offering compassion, understanding, and support through lived experience.

We are not here to diagnose, analyze, or tell you how you should grieve.

We are simply siblings supporting siblings.

SOSS One-to-One Support is not professional counseling, therapy, medical care, or crisis intervention.
