Welcome to SOSS
Where sacred grief meets a community of sibling support, healing, and hope.
Created from enduring sibling love, so no sibling has to walk the sacred journey of grief alone.
Together, we are no longer the forgotten mourners.
We are deeply sorry for the loss of your brother or sister.
If you have found this page, you have experienced one of life’s most heartbreaking losses. We wish we were meeting under different circumstances. While we cannot take away the pain of your loss, we hope you will find comfort, understanding, and connection here.
Survivors of Sibling Suicide (SOSS) was born from the profound loss of my beloved brother, Justin Christopher, and the enduring love I carry for him.
After Justin died by suicide on April 12, 2021, I searched for a support group created specifically for surviving siblings. I quickly discovered that while many wonderful grief resources existed, there were very few places dedicated solely to brothers and sisters grieving the suicide loss of a sibling.
Out of that need, SOSS was created as a place where surviving siblings could feel seen, understood, supported, and less alone in their grief.
Today, SOSS is an international nonprofit peer-support community where surviving siblings from across the United States and around the world come together in compassion, understanding, and hope.
Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, you are welcome exactly as you are.
What to Expect
Our Zoom support meetings are open to adults age 18 and older who have lost a brother or sister to suicide.
SOSS is a peer support community, not a professional grief or therapy group. We are not therapists or counselors. We are simply siblings who have experienced the suicide loss of a brother or sister ourselves.
Although we come from many different countries, cultures, backgrounds, faiths, and stages of our grief journeys, we are united by one shared experience and one enduring truth: our love for our siblings.
Each meeting begins with brief introductions before opening into a compassionate conversation where siblings are welcome to share their stories, speak openly about their grief, remember their brother or sister, ask questions, or simply listen.
There is never any pressure to speak. Some siblings attend only to listen during their first meeting. Others find comfort in sharing right away. Both are equally welcome.
There is no right or wrong way to participate.
You are welcome exactly as you are.
A Safe and Compassionate Space
Our meetings are built upon compassion, confidentiality, kindness, and mutual respect.
There is no timeline for grief.
There is no expectation that you should "move on" or "be over it."
Here, you will be surrounded by people who understand the profound impact of losing a brother or sister to suicide because we are living that reality ourselves.
You never have to explain why your heart still hurts.
We understand.
Our Mission
To provide a safe haven of compassion, understanding, hope, comfort, and healing for adults grieving the suicide loss of a brother or sister.
Through peer support and shared lived experience, we walk alongside one another, reminding every sibling that they are not alone and that, together, we can journey toward a place of peace, healing, and hope.
Please Note
SOSS is a peer support community and is not a professional grief or therapy group. We are not therapists, counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, or other mental health professionals.
Our purpose is to provide compassionate sibling-to-sibling support through shared lived experience.
If you come to us with a professional background, such as a therapist, counselor, grief coach, life coach, researcher, student, or similar role, you are warmly welcome as a sibling. We simply ask that you participate only in that capacity.
Our meetings are not intended for observation, research, interviews, professional engagement, recruitment, or the promotion of outside services.
Protecting the privacy, trust, and emotional safety of every sibling is something we hold with great care.
Thank you for honoring this sacred space.
